Memorial Biography

On April 5th, 2022, Jose Antonio Acosta Aybar, 61, passed away in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on August 10th, 1960 to parents Maruja Elisa Aybar and Jose Antonio Acosta Sr. As a child, Jose moved to New York, New York with his family. Immediately acclimating to a new country and language, he was never afraid of a challenge. Throughout his life, he made incredible friendships with a sense of humor that lit up the room and a humble willingness to help whenever he could. Jose had a successful career in hospitality for many decades, which allowed him to travel across the country and internationally. One of his favorite work locations was always Maui; both for the incredible waters and the lifelong relationships he found there. Most recently, Jose founded the restaurant, Naca'n, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He brought all his passion and love for food and hospitality to his restaurant and the people that bring it to life. His family and friends are happy to have a place they can continue to visit as a piece of his legacy. Jose had a passion for travel, adventure, baseball and good food, which he loved to share most of all with his 5 children. He is survived by his wife, Lissette Carlo, his children Kathryn (Sam), James (Chelsey), Max, Sofia, and Lucas, his mother, Maruja Elisa Aybar, his father, Jose Antonio Acosta Sr., his sisters Pilar and Yvette as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the future in his honor.
