#6 Timmy Barker My IdolDavid Harkins 2020-11-12 23:31
At age 10 the first time I saw Timmy Barker playing baseball at East Salisbury Little League, I knew he was my idol. He was great at any sport he played, but when it came to baseball he could do it all; hit, run, throw and especially field it and get rid of the ball better and quicker than anyone. His baseball talents matched his baseball IQ. As great as he was through all levels of his career, he was always confident yet humble. At some point, I believe it was in Big League, Timmy got a new glove and gave me his old one. I played with his glove at Richmond. When I told my teammates it was Timmy's glove, they teased me a little, especially when we played VCU, but I didn't care. I was so proud to be playing with my idol's glove.

I agree with Chad Jones that Timmy was the best baseball player to ever come out of Salisbury. He left us way too soon but he will be remembered forever.
My thoughts, prayers and heart go out to the entire Barker family and his wife Kelly.

One of the best friends I had at VCU. I loved playing with Timmy Barker. He was such a great player and teammate. “There’s heroes and there’s legends. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die”
Timmy, you certainly will never die in my eyes.

Timmy was my first best friend. The Barkers, became my second family. Our dads’ played fast pitch at Harmon Field. Can’t remember how young we were , but prior to Kindergarten. Growing up back in those days was awesome. We all knew Timmy was talented at everything he did, but he always stayed humble. He made everybody raise their game. He was just a “solid “ guy. Everyone that got to meet, and compete against Timmy felt that.
Sending big hugs to you all.
It brings on smile, (and a tear) to my face knowing Norman, Timmy, and my pal Mike Pusey are probably starting some pick up games up there.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. I will remember turning a double play with Tim while playing East Salisbury Little League baseball for the Thrasher's, and then Pepsi team. Also, feeding him the soccer ball for one of his many goals scored playing for the Green Machine and Coach Norman Francis, and then the Salisbury Optimist team. My condolences to his entire family, especially his father Neal, and his sister, Karen.

I had the good fortune to call Tim a teammate for three seasons with the Dodgers. We were both drafted in '89 and played in Great Falls, Bakersfield, and Vero Beach. We lived together in Arizona one Fall which was when I really got to know him and realize not only how great an athlete he was but also how he was a wonderful person and teammate. I wish we had stayed in touch over these past 25 years and am saddened by his passing but I'm sure he left a lasting impact on this world through his family, friends, and past teammates who learned from his kindness and work ethic. He will be greatly missed.

One of the things that makes me smile is when I hear people who knew Tim years ago call him Timmy. To people who knew him in recent years he was Tim. :) we miss him so much.
