How wonderful to see these joyous photos of Pat! She will be deeply, deeply missed. Her spirit, enthusiasm and joy was remarkable, not to mention her kindness, compassion and empathy for others. I remember eating a dish she had made at a family gathering and remarking that I really enjoyed the recipe. Within a week she had mailed me a hand written copy of the recipe. She was delightful to spend time with, always having something to say and a compelling, interesting topic to discuss. Peace and Love.

Pat was my friend for more than 45 years, dating back to the days when we both returned from assignments in Latin America with the State Department and bought houses near each other. She was a hard-working volunteer for the Democratic party in our community for decades, a tireless veteran of countless Lafayette School fairs and other school activities, and a volunteer without equal at Blessed Sacrament and other Chevy Chase community organizations. However, despite her quite serious and hard-working side, Pat had a wicked sense of humor and appreciated nothing more than a good joke! And, while we will all miss her dreadfully, God's newest angel is probably going around heaven today helping folk while making them laugh. We will miss you, my dear old friend!

Subject: From 1 of the speakers

This is from one of the Jewish scholars, Gideon Amir, who spoke to the BBB often.
Your Mom had her special seat in the front row. She always welcomed each speaker, and provided a drink if needed. She often had a thought provoking question for him/her.
I will be at the Mass as we now live near Solomon's Island. Linda Goeke

Thank you so much for including me with the announcement.

I have very fond memories of Pat and will miss her greatly. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend either day, but I will think about her.

Gideon

Dear Paul,

Through the many years that I have known Pat in the Bible Study Group, I came to appreciate her forthright personality. She never minced words, sharing wisdom she had acquired through her work and life if she thought it could help. She also was a person of her word, very dependable and full of empathy. I shall miss her very much.

My sympathies to you and the entire family.

Cecile Kelly

Thank you very much for posting about her role with the Weekly Bible Study Class. She never shared any details like that with me or maybe I never gave her the sense that I had the time (my regret) but I'm not surprised. Throughout her battles with health issues in the hospital that had her on her back, she managed to scrutinize EVERY nurse and Doctor as I shared in her biography; every badge was carefully inspected by her, from her back, and when very weak; they respected her for that, and laughed at her sarcastic comments. When in severe pain, she grabbed a Doctor's hand to hold it and looked up and said, "what would your wife think of this?" That was a gift of laughter. She was incredibly sharp. She actually self diagnosed the blot clot in her leg many hours before they agreed with her. Yes she was a registered nurse, but at 84 years old, and weak from very little food, and drugged up, the staff found a new level of respect for her. So did her children because had she scrutinized our shenanigans in high school so astutely, we might have been perpetually grounded. :-)

I do not have any photos, but have
fond memories of working with Pat.
We were on The speakers
Committee for the weekly Bible study
Class, the Bread, the Book, and the
Brethren, at Blessed Sacrament. Pat
would contact the potential speaker,
explain the topic to be covered and
WAIT. This took great patience, as
sometimes it took a while to hear from
each person.
My task was to mail the text/
questions to each. The easy part.
Each year Pat invited me to her home
several times
"To go over the list." She always
welcomed me with open arms. First,
we'd compare notes about our families.
She loved her family so much. Pat
would beam talking about her next
visit to Japan, her grand-daughter' s
upcoming wedding, her trip to Ireland...
Pat was also a wise mentor, giving me
good practical advice in dealing with my
then teenagers.
Finally we'd look at the list. She was so
thorough and diligent. When we studied
the Old Testament, she contacted
local rabbis. She scrutinized the
group of speakers, interspersing
religious with lay people, male/female,
Biblical scholars-but not 2 in a row-
just to give us a diverse approach!
Pat will be missed by many. May God
Bless Pat & all who were fortunate enough
to know Pat!
