An unforgettable first meeting in my grade 8 class at John English PS began a lifelong admiration of Mr. Kelly Green. Separated from my best friend for the first time and assigned to the homeroom of this big, burly, bearded man who terrified me! The Principal and my Mom arranged a meeting to ease my nerves and I soon learned this big man had an even bigger heart and was a caring personality who loved his family. I tried to stay in touch sending St. Patrick's Day cards and and wishes over the years and always lifted him in thought on that day. I cherish the copy of Kahlil Gibran's, The Prophet book he dedicated and gifted to me in grade 8. I have often referred to passages from it for guidance. I proudly own to two copper tooled lamps adorned with maple leaves that I purchased from him when he ran his antique/refurbishing business along with two pieces of his art; an early painting on wood entitled "South West Gothic", and a later piece of the "Spirit Mare." The world has lost a fine man who inspired many, and who in spirit will continue to do so. Sending much love to Rhea and family.

Mr Green, newly arrived at John English in Mimico, was my Gr 8 teacher. He was intelligent, fun, irreverent, caring, creative and inspiring. He was also very supportive to me at a difficult time in my young life. He told me to reach for the stars and that I could do anything. He thought I should become a writer and bought me a copy of The Writer’s Market, which I have today, signing it “with affection and confidence.” He gave me a copy of The Prophet too. I wish I had told him how much he’d influenced me. I became a Deputy Minister and, now retired, I am writing. I’ll alway be grateful to him. Sincere condolences on your loss. He made the world a better place.
Ruth and family: We are very sorry for the loss of your father. He lived an incredible life and you've shared a wonderful tribute to him. We're thinking of you and your mom and the rest of your family.
