Phil and the Taylor family,
I was sorry to hear the news about Karen, but I know she is rejoicing in the presence of Jesus! I have very fond memories of you and Karen helping with our Youth group at Roland Manor when I was in Jr. High. We always had a lot of fun with you guys and you made all of us feel important! I am praying that you find peace and comfort in the Lord and that sweet memories will sustain you.
Love and Blessings,
Joyce Brhel Chavez

"Friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long
To live as friends"

We are so sorry and deeply saddened by the news of Karen's passing. Our daughters were beyond inspired by Karen's amazing teaching ability and her absolute warmth as a human being.

When your move was decided for Hawaii, Karen rode in my car on the way to a field trip and we discussed the wonderful opportunity she had to live there and the amazing outdoors that would await her. From a selfish standpoint, my husband and I were very sad that our youngest daughter would not have the opportunity to be in Karen's classroom. We joked with her that we were going to send her over to Hawaii for kindergarten! And Karen was all for it!

About 2 years into your residence in Hawaii, we decided to take a family trip to Hawaii and I emailed Karen to let her know. In a blink, she had her inter-island plane fare purchased and the visit was planned. I will never forget picking her up at the airport and spending the day with her snorkeling and sharing her knowledge of Kona. Our girls did not want that day to end and were begging her to stay one more day. It was the highlight of our trip and we were so thrilled that Karen would spend the time to come see us. But that was who she was. She was the most genuine and caring person, whose love of learning was infectious. Her passion and quest for knowledge will live on and our girls will carry her spirit into the future.

Thank you for sharing Karen with us and please accept our deepest sympathies at this time.

In sympathy,

Michelle and John (and daughters Madeleine and Eloise)
