Thinking of all the things I am grateful for. My father is a big part of that. He was a great father. Always believing I could do anything I wanted. He was always proud of me and encouraging. He wouldn't let you get by on sloppy work, always saying you have to do your best at every project.
I'm lucky I had a father there in my life. One that was loving and had a great sense of humor. This year Korry and I went to Bodie and I could remember visiting there as a child with my family. Great memories.

#4 When Sharon was Born - By Kitty NewtonSharon Martin 2014-07-23 21:05
When Sharon came home from the hospital, Don decided he's get everything organized. So he sterilized all the bottles and mixed up a big batch of formula. So he had the refrigerator stocked full of formula. The doctor said he had to throw it all out because you couldn't make it up like that. But he was trying to be so efficient.

I worked with Don thru out my years at Universal Studios. My dad and he were good friends as well. A true gentlemen always and I'm blessed to have worked and known him. Spent many hours on the set with him and never remember him without his smile. He loved what he did and was a terrific leader. Recently Tom Battaglia passed as well we all spent many hours on Centennial in Greeley,Colorad o. RIP Don

#2 Grandson EricSharon Martin 2014-07-01 04:11
The memories I have of my grandpa were very good! I always thought of him as the toughest grandpa in the world. We didn't get to see him as much as I would like to of, but it was great when we did. I remember one time when we visited his home in thousand oaks and I was in his garage, I must have been around 7. He had a weight bench and I decided to take the weights off so I could use it. I forgot to put them back on and when he went out to use it it came down way faster than normal he was a lil upset but he couldn't stop laughing it was hard to stay mad. My grandpa Don lived an amazing life meeting many people that most people would have dreamed to meet. He raised great kids who one happens to be my father who is also a great man! And he gas amazing grand kids and great grand kids! I believe he is in a great place now no doubt! He was loved and he will be missed!!!! Love his grandson Eric.

I got to know Don later in his years. Always a story to tell from the studio days. Filming, the actors he had met and all the traveling he did with these films. And these stories were told in my car on our way to get manicures, pedicures and acupuncture. After his stroke, the use of his hands were limited and when he came to visit Sharon, off we'd go to get mani's, pedi's and acupuncture,. He always seem to feel so much better after our visits. I hope it was our conversation and pampering that helped him feel better. Rest in peace and you will surely be missed.
