Andy as a young boy
Happy hour at the cabin!
My best memory from Andreas. In order to save money, us two on my (this) scooter (Diana Durrkopp) in summer 1958, all the way from Zürich to Norway. It took us two days, the first 12 hours from Zürich to a stayower in a farmhous in Germany close to the Danish border. Next day through Denmark up the Hirtshals for a ferry to Norway.

Again a view from our clubhouse in Zürich across Zuricher See towards Bellevue. I wonder if it is Andreas down right. What wonderful summers we had there!
Here’s a photo of Andy in action from the files of Linda Mangum.
Andy is about to toss a box out of an airplane. He was well known for being a hands on manager/coordinator. He loved being in on the action. He did it all.P
My grandfather who I’ve always known as Morfar is an amazing man. He was someone I looked up to and taught me many things. Morfar opened my eyes to the stock market and finance which is now my passion. He could answer any question I had or conquer any project I ran by him. I will forever miss you Morfar. Rest In Peace.
Morfar,
You were the best mentor and teacher. You taught me so many life long lessons and gave me advice that will stick with me forever. I will always remember how willing and excited you would get to help out with any project given to you. Rest In Peace to the best grandpa.
-Tucker
My grandpa, who I always called Morfar, was someone who could do anything. He was always there when I had a tough project and he would help me work through it. He was always very patient and he is the one who taught me that with a little patience you can do anything. I will forever miss working on projects with you and sitting and talking with you. Rest in Peace Morfar. -Carson

1958 In Figgjo. Andreas Age 20!
I am Kaj Stål, citizen of Finland and living in Germany since 1971.
I met Andreas when we both started our engineering studies at ETH in Zürich Switzerland in 1957, together with 50 other students from Scandinavia and Finland. As time went by we became good friends and the ties stenghtened as we both had similar interests: soccer and skiing, We played on two teams: on an international student team AC Mandorlo and on the team of the Nordic Rowing club („Nordiska“). Andreas was a very good soccer player and a good downhill skier. In fact, I learned downhill skiing from Andreas (Finland has no montains for downhill skiing) and we had good skiing trips together with other Scandinavian students. I learned to appreciate Andreas very much as he was very honest and straight forward in his thoughts and speech. Andreas was a true friend one could trust. After lunch or dinner in the university restaurant we often played pool in the university pool room (Andreas was also a very good pool player!) or we went to the movies and afterwards to a restaurant Löwenbräu downtown Zürich for a beer (or two) and a plate with good Emmentaler or Appenzeller cheese cubes, and afterwards to the Nordic Rowing Club where many students met for another beer (or two).
After having graduated from the university in 1962, I joined the military service in Finland and also here we kept up the contact through correspondance (personal computer did not exist yet) . After the 1 year military sevice I returned to Zürich and joined the group of close friends. I continued playing soccer in AC Mandorlo and enjoying life with my previous student friends. In 1965 something important happend. It was actually Andreas, who introduced Randi from Norway and me to one another at the restaurant Pan. He must have had a good feeling about this introduction, since we will be celebrating our 55th anniversary this coming June.
In 1965 our ways parted: I went back to Finland and Andreas immigrated to the US to work for Boeing. We still kept up a loose contact.
Now this good friend, as well as a few other good friends from ETH 1957, are regrettably not among us any longer..
