Memorial Biography

After a short but valiant battle with throat cancer, Sam passed into his mother and fathers waiting arms at the age of 57. Survived by his fiance, Tammy Deschamps, daughter Nickole Gordon (Logan) and one granddaughter, son Samuel (Jess) and one grandson. Sisters Lucy Garvin (Dave), Rita Wright (William) and Karen Lawrence (Pete). Also by nephews, nieces, family and friends. Special thanks goes out to Trisha Dodge, Chris Armour and Tylee Pearson. Though Sam's life was short it was kept full with many different professions and past times. In his lifetime he was everything from a mechanic to a HAM radio enthusiast. He was a first responder, paramedic, firefighter, St. John’ ambulance officer but his love and passion in life was HAM radio. Drummimg, singing and anything music all came a close second. He was instrumental with helping with emergency communications for the Ontario Ice Storm in 1998, Y2K in Winnipeg, Manitoba and setting up an emergency communications comm room for the Errington fire department in British Columbia. Sam was born and raised in Almonte, Ontario. He spent all of his days until a young man there. He moved to British Columbia for a few years, back to Almonte, Winnipeg for 3 years and then back to Almonte. In 2002 he made his final move back out west to British Columbia. He now called Vancouver Island home where he lived until his passing. Sam had a large family and numerous friends and colleagues that he referred to as family. He was originally married to his fiancé in 2000 and they had reconnected and planned on remarrying. His children Nickole and Sam along with his grandchildren are now his legacy. In the last 11 years he has also had Smudge by his side as well. The little white cat with the crazy meow that loved him so. This was his best friend. Donations in memorial please to a charity of your choosing. THERE WILL BE A CELEBRATION OF LIFE, SATURDAY JUNE 19, 2021 from 3-11. IF YOU REQUIRE INFORMATION ON THIS PLEASE MESSAGE ME. 613-875-8141
