Seth David Friedman passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his home in San Francisco on February 2. He was 47. Seth was a graduate of The Branson School in Ross, class of 1992, and Hampshire College in Amheerst, Massachusetts, class of 1999. A software engineer and testing specialist by profession, he was employed by some of the Bay Area’s most dynamic companies, including Apple, Oracle, Third Space, InterModal Data, AK (Aggregate Knowledge), and Samba TV. He was known for his expertise in automation, build/release, and the combination of software development and IT operations known as DevOps. But Seth’s greatest love was food. As a toddler, one of his first words was “more.” By the time he was five, he already had a taste for sushi and fine cheeses. A longtime San Franciscan, he grew his own vegetables on the roof of his apartment building. He made his own veal stock. At the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, he befriended and exchanged ideas with the growers and vendors. Always on the lookout for opportunities to prepare interesting meals for large groups, he also loved to cook at home for friends and family or gather with them at his latest find among the Bay Area's most interesting restaurants. He was a sweet, kind man, joyfully creative, prodigiously bright, and full of life and laughter. One of his favorite T-shirts reads: "Good Grammar is Sexy.” Seth is survived by his mother, Rebecca Jaggers, of Sacramento; his father, Bennett Friedman, of Healdsburg; his stepfather, Jerry Jaggers, of Sacramento; his stepmother, Anne Berry of Healdsburg; his aunt, Dana Ransom of Mapleton, Utah; and his uncle, David Ellison of Felton. Seth was preceded in death by his aunt Lenora Black.
