Memorial Biography

Sally Sloat Paine Ebeling (Ridall) passed away on December 20, 2021, at Metro Health in Cleveland, Ohio, just two days shy of her 83rd birthday. Born in Watertown, New York and raised in Groton, New York to John and Carolyn Sloat on December 22, 1938, much of Sally’s life was centered around her talent and passion for horses. From the young age of twelve, Sally began raising horses. After graduating Groton High School as Valedictorian, Sally received a partial scholarship and attended and graduated from Cornell University with a focus on Education and Mathematics, receiving a B.S. Degree and Teaching Certification. Sally then relocated to Watertown, New York and began teaching middle school Algebra at the Watertown City School District, and thereupon meeting and raising a family with her first and late husband, Donald Paine. Together with Donald she established an equestrian horse farm, T.I. Morgans, to raise, train, sell, and show hunter/jumper Morgan horses, of which many Morgan horse owners can now trace their horse’s equestrian lineage through her most-loved sire, T.I. Redbird. After many years of teaching and following the death of Redbird, Sally left her school teaching profession and moved to south-eastern Florida with her horse, Domino, to further her instruction and provide full-time teaching in the art of her new-found passion, Dressage. When Sally was no longer able to meet the physical demands of her equestrian profession she relocated back to Canton, New York for several years, before just recently moving to Ohio to reside with her beloved niece, Jill Tvaroha, daughter of her late sister, Mary S. Blavos. Sally was resilient and intelligent beyond measure, as well as athletic and outdoorsy throughout her life. She would often load up her horse trailer and take off for weekends to participate in equestrian competitions with her family and students or go sailing in the summertime and on weekend cross-country or downhill skiing adventures in the wintertime. In addition to her love of the outdoors, Sally was an avid reader and lover of logic puzzles, and a loyal and loving mother, confidante, and friend…possessing a sensitive soul, a deep belief in honesty and kindness, and a deep devotion to the underdogs in life. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by many. Sally is survived by her brother: John (Jack) Sloat, Jr., Ohio; children: Beth Wallace, Guam, Harold Paine and daughter-in-law Denise Downey Natali-Paine, Nebraska; step-children; Kimberly Ridall-Villagomez, Georgia, and Terri Ridall, California: grand-children; Derek, Jordan, and Jaiden Paine, children of Beth Wallace; and Taylor Marie Paine, daughter of Harold Paine and Julie Paine Granger: niece and nephew; Jill Tvaroha and Mark Tvaroha; and five great-grandchildren.
