Memorial Biography

Phillip Jones Sr, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away in Spokane, WA at the age of 68 on June 11, 2018, surrounded by his family. Growing up in Oklahoma, in a musical household, Phil’s love of music, food, football, aviation, and travel were developed in his childhood. He attended, played football for, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma’s (Boomer Sooner!) Air Force ROTC program. In the Airforce, Phil first realized his dream of being a pilot, and flew C-141 freight airplanes in Vietnam, Grenada, and Desert Storm. Whilst finishing his commitment in the Air Force, Phil started flying for Flying Tigers, and later, FedEx where he spent the rest of his career flying Airbus all over the world, including Asia, where he lived and flew in his later years with FedEx. His love of aviation touched many people as he mentored many pilots, including his sons, throughout his career. His generosity and love of sharing his experiences will be carried on in the people he touched. His is survived by his wife, Tess Jones, and children and their spouses Tyler Sanders, Inga Hedlund, Phil Jones, Jr., William Jones, and Anna Jones. He is also survived by his grandchildren Mary, Caroline, Elizabeth, Ava, Nicholas, Kate, and Marshall. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 15, at 3pm at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church at 316 E 24th Ave, Spokane, WA 99203 with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF) in Phil’s name.
