Paul Page Douglas, age 72, died on Sunday, August 19, 2018 in Austin, TX. Paul was born in Corpus Christi, TX to parents Brigadier General Paul Page Douglas, Jr. and Sarah Lee Douglas. As the son of one of the most decorated flyers in air force history, Paul spent time living in Germany, Iceland, and France as a young child prior to moving back to the United States. Paul served in the United States Army Special Forces, Green Berets. He graduated from the University of Central Arkansas. Paul’s first job was in Saudi Arabia setting up the Respiratory Therapy Department at the new King Faisal’s hospital. He then accepted a position as a respiratory therapist and Department head at a hospital in Corpus Christi before moving to Austin. Once in Austin, Paul began his 30-year career with the state in roles at the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Department of Transportation. Paul’s charming nature and zest for life will be remembered by his loved ones. As a young adult, he enjoyed surfing and time at the ocean. When he became a father, he embraced activities such as serving terms as the Parent Teacher Organization’s (PTO) president and vice-president at the kids’ school, coach of John’s many baseball teams and spending hours upon hours with the children at the family ranch. He taught his kids gunmanship, how to work the land, fish, and enjoy nature. Paul is survived by his mother, Sarah Lee Douglas, son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Esmeralda Douglas, son and daughter-in-law John and Macy Douglas, daughter and son-in-law Paige and Rusty Shelton, five grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law Beau and Dianne Harvey and brother-in-law Stan Browder. Paul is preceded in death by his father Paul Page Douglas, Jr. and his sister Suzanne Browder. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Highland Park Baptist Church, 5206 Balcones Dr., Austin, TX 78731.
