Dr. Lawrence S. Kaplan was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 28, 1924. He grew up in Chelsea, Massachusetts and attended Colby College. His attendance at Colby was interrupted by World War II. He enlisted in the US Army. After serving in the Army, he returned to Colby College and graduated in 1947. He proceeded to Yale University for both his Master's and PhD in History.
He became a well-known historian, specializing in American history and in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). It's perhaps best for him to explain his own history better than any of us. Copied below is his CV, that he just recently updated.
He married Janice Eyges. Janice passed away on January 28, 2020. They are both survived by their children: Deborah Kaplan and Joshua Kaplan.
