Juanita June Evans

November 4, 1929 Cleveland,Ohio ~ August 26, 2012 Chicago,Illinois

Juanita was born November 4, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio to proud parents Peter and Marina (Hart) Hickland.

She grew up on the south side of Chicago, the youngest of three sisters and one brother. Juanita was an energetic and outspoken personality who always lifted your spirits with a ready smile and pleasant demeanor.

She gave birth to one son Neal Eugene Hickland on Dec 28, 1946. Juanita married William (Bill) Evans on July 12, 1968. They were a loving and inseparable couple for over 40 years until his passing in 2006.

Juanita worked for the State of Illinois at the Department of Public Aid as a Clerk for 23 years. She was an active member of AFSCME Illinois Retirees, Chapter 31. During her career she helped many in need and was highly regarded as a competent, caring and concerned facilitator who cut through "red tape", to get the job done.

Juanita was a very involved member of the Metropolitan Community Church at 4610 South Prairie Ave., Chicago, Ill. She embraced her Church Family and was an integral part of the various out reach programs.

Juanita departed this life on Sunday night August 26, 2012 at her home. She was in the midst of treatment for a recent cancer diagnosis.

She is predeceased by her husband Bill, brother Joseph Hart and her sister Rachel Lewers who passed away in 2011.

She leaves to cherish her memory; her SON: Neal Hickland, Chicago, Ill, SISTER: Phyllis Smith of Colorado Springs, CO; NEPHEWS: Clyde (Edna) Matthews, Chicago, Ill; Martin (Iris) Cooper, Columbia, MD; Micheal Robinson, LasVegas, NV; Robert (Frances) Cooper, Tucson, AZ.; NIECES: Camille Robinson, Beaverton, OR; Marina Downing, Colorado Springs, CO; Marlene Cardeia, Atlanta, GA., and a  host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws and many dear cherished friends.

A memorial service is planned at Metropolitan Community Church 4610 South Prairie Ave., Chicago Ill. on Saturday September 8, 2012 at 1pm.
