Ellen M. Schewe, 71, of Traverse City, died Monday morning, November 14, 2022, at Munson Medical Hospital, TC. She was born Sept, 23, 1951 in Wayne County, Hamtramck, MI, daughter of the late Joseph and Jane (Jaskulski) Lukaszewski. She attended Felician Academy School in Detroit, and attended both Finney and Denby High Schools. While at Denby, she was president of the Junior Achievement Club. She finished her GED at night school. Later, attended Macomb County Community College for business. She married Robert Schewe on May 19, 1973, in Lansing, MI. She was a top saleswomen for many corporations--Spartan Plastics, Mary Kay, and Sam's Club, to name a few and became a partner in Schewe Art and Design Studio. She was an active women’s rights activist, and a promoter of the arts. Taught art history for Holt Public Schools “picture” program. Later, she helped promote artists at Michigan Artists Gallery, Suttons Bay. Belonged to five sales and marketing clubs, Lansing Advertising Club, Holt Business Alliance, Midland Quilters and Quilters of the Loft, St. John's Episcopal Church. However, her biggest passion was for children and early childhood development. She helped to start, and taught at multiple day care centers in Lansing, MI and opened her own daycare center along with her husband Rob, Country Care Development Center, Mason, MI, 1978. Ellen was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother, with a great sense of humor. She loved the outdoors, travel, camping, photography, music of rock and jazz, dancing, swimming in Lake Michigan, and most importantly, the love for her grandchildren. Her vivacious personality and energy, along with her amazing smile and enthusiasm for life will surely be missed. Surviving are her husband of fifty-two years, Rob, her children and their spouses, Jason Schewe of Traverse City and Martha Schewe and Sam Rose of Mason, five grandchildren, Weyland, Zya, Xander, Sidney, and Oliver. Siblings Jerry (Ella) Lukas, and Val Piorkowski, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, TC, MI, Dec. 17 (Sat.) 11:00 am followed by a reception in the church hall.
