Memorial Biography

Don was born in Tallahassee, FL on May 17, 1953. He was the first child of Don K. Albritton and Betty Brown Albritton. He attended Leon High School and Lively Technical Collage where he studied electronics. In 1964, after watching the Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show, he said, "That's what I am going to do!" And he did. He began taking guitar lessons in the 6th grade which launched his life-long passion for music. He was actively involved in the Tallahassee music scene in various bands including Trep Ammer, Tallahassee Band, and Bad Sneakers. Over the years he lived in Lakeland, Atlanta and Colorado Springs. While in Atlanta, he worked for a production company doing sound and lighting for some of the biggest professional musicians in the industry. He eventually returned to his hometown, Tallahassee, and became reacquainted with his high-school friend, Martha "Allen" Collins Heitz. Allen and Don were born one day apart at Tallahassee Memorial and spent their first days together in the nursery and the last 5 years together as sweethearts.
