R. CRAIG CLARK, Sr., M.D.

1925 - 2014

Robert Craig Clark, M.D. (“Dr. Craig”) passed away on March 27, 2014 in San Diego, California from multiple complications incident to age, while surrounded by his children. Dr. Craig was born July 19, 1925, in Provo, Utah as the third son to Mary Newell and Stanley M. Clark, M.D. He graduated from BYU academy in 1943, and joined the U.S. Navy's V-12 program, which was an accelerated college program to train Navy officers. Dr. Craig graduated from Jefferson Medical College in June 1948 at the age of 22 years, simultaneously taking his Bachelors degree from Brigham Young University in Chemistry. He followed his father, older brother Stan, Jr., and three uncles into the medical profession after a five year residency in general surgery at the Salt Lake County Hospital. His older brother Richard followed two years later. Dr. Craig was accredited by the American College of Surgeons in 1953, serving as Chief of Surgery for the Utah Valley Hospital for many years. He retired in 1996.

Dr. Craig practiced from the “Clark Clinic,” at 225 N. University Avenue, Provo beginning in 1953. Dr. Craig practiced general surgery, Dr. Dick was an OBGYN, Dr. Stan, Jr. was an EENT and Doctor Senior (Stan, Sr.) was their mentor in surgery and general practice.

At some point or another, every person's life from Lehi to Nephi was touched by the Clark Clinic doctors. Dr. Craig was the youngest member of the medical dynasty and a skilled diagnostician, surgeon and medical counselor. He was beloved for his integrity, his gratis treatment of the poor and men of the cloth and his service to the health and hospital community over a long career.

Dr. Craig enjoyed married life for 57 years with his beloved wife, Eloise, who proceeded him in death August 12, 2004.

Dr. Craig is survived by his four children, Mary Christine Clark Bork (Mrs. Jeffery Holt Bork) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Robert Craig Clark, Jr. (his wife, Valerie Wolfe), James G. Clark (his wife, Mary Catherine Heishman), and Kipp H. Clark (his wife, Tina Louise Carrillo); and also survived by four grand children, Melanie Bork Griffith (Mrs. Stephan Graham), Jeffrey Scott Bork, Robert Craig Clark, III.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday April 4, 2014 at Berg Mortuary in Provo. Dr. Craig loved flowers and we are sure he would appreciate a few for his service.
