This was the last photo my mom and I took together, on October 1st, 2020. We had just moved into our new home (or homes), and she was beginning a new chapter — easing into retirement, making new friends, reconnecting with old ones, and embracing life with an open heart. I’m so grateful she was surrounded by love, feeling wanted and valued when she left this world. For much of her life, she longed for that kind of acceptance — to be cherished simply for who she was. In time, she found the strength to stop chasing after those who couldn’t see her worth, and instead made space for genuine, meaningful connections. She finally allowed herself to be fully seen, fully loved. As we approach what would have been her 74th birthday, I find myself missing her more deeply than words can capture. But I hold onto the comfort that, in the end, she knew how deeply she was loved.
