The earliest memory of my brother was when my mother was pregnant with him and she asked me if I wanted a brother or a sister. I was three, almost four years old. I remember telling her that “this time, I want a brother” as I already had a sister. I remember walking with my pregnant mother to the Naval Air Station in Alameda to shop. I remember when my brother was born and when my parents brought him home. I watched him being placed on my parent’s bed and remember reading his wrist tag with his name on it. My memories of my brother, Eugene, are vast and humorous - as he was such a character!! The joyful memories of my bother will always outweigh my sorrow. Through thick and thin, through good and bad, through tears and laughter, through pain and enjoyment, through fear and peace - I can smile at all of it. God brought us through so much in our lives, both good and bad; but, He brought us through with grace and laughter. My brother was gifted with humor and he always made me laugh. He still makes me laugh. It’s amazing now how most things I look at or see on TV somehow brings a memory and reminds me of him. The rain, for example and as simple as it is, now reminds me of how we use to sit at his bedroom window when we were little, and just watch the rain fall. I had forgotten that we use to do that. I will love and miss my brother for the rest of my life. From, Toni Poulin Sister of Eugene Poulin February 2016
