We are reaching out on behalf of Reimagine End of Life, a citywide initiative that transforms the experience around death and dying by encouraging expressions of gratitude for life.
Growing out of OpenIDEO’s End of Life Challenge in 2016, our organization is partnering with San Francisco’s Palliative Care Work Group for a weeklong festival that sparks over 175 unique events across the city – from end of life care education, to spiritual avenues, to creative expression. Based on past festivals, we expect to attract 10,000 attendees and reach over 100,000 residents across the Bay Area, bringing together the medical, spiritual, cultural, and arts + entertainment communities. Over the course of the festival (October 24th-November 3rd), Reimagine aims to unite the city to celebrate life, embrace diversity, and address crucial topics around the end of life experience - through the lenses of wonder, preparedness, and remembrance. Our survey results have confirmed that attending events during Reimagine Week impacted participants in numerous positive ways:
90% agreed that their Reimagine experience made them feel more grateful for their life and the people in it;
80% felt more connected to their community;
86% said that the experience helped make talking about death easier.
