Memorial Biography

Norma Ione (Hanson) Albrecht, 91, of Burwell, Nebraska, died unexpectedly on Sunday, November 3, 2019, at Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord, Nebraska. ¶ Norma was born on August 29, 1928, to Otto, Sr. and Inga (Olsen) Hanson in Dalton, Minnesota. She was baptized in the church in 1928, and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Dalton, Minnesota, in 1942.  ¶ She attended primary and secondary schools in Dalton, Minnesota. While attending high school, Norma worked as a telephone switchboard operator, assisted working mothers with their children, and attended nurses aide training in support of the World War II effort. She graduated from Washington High School in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, in 1947.  ¶ She married Gordon Wayne Albrecht on August 24, 1947, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Dalton, Minnesota.  ¶ Norma and Gordon first settled down to raise their family near Wendell, Minnesota. Over the next sixty years, the farm and Hereford cattle industry moved the couple to central Iowa, northern Missouri, central Nebraska, northern Oklahoma, and western Kansas.  ¶ In semi-retirement, Gordon served as the Secretary-Manager for the Kansas Hereford Association (KHA) for over a decade. During this time, Norma managed the KHA's production and performance records, served as the editor for the KHA's bi-monthly periodical, and wrote the "Noteworthy News from Norma" column. ¶ In retirement, Norma and Gordon continued raising cattle, sheep, and hunting dogs. The couple retired to Burwell, Nebraska in 2008. ¶ A talented and accomplished woman; Norma often enrolled in college courses and independent classes to pursue her passion for writing short stories, drawing in charcoal, painting with watercolors, sculpting, and playing the piano. Other hobbies included geneology, pottery, embroidery, scrapbooking, gardening, and journaling. ¶ Norma had always been an active member of her church; whether serving as a Sunday School teacher, or choir member. As a child, she remembered walking to Sunday School with her four brothers; and as an adult, she always wanted to live within walking distance of church. She finally got her wish when they moved to Burwell... their home was 1000' from church. Norma had been an active member of Saint John's Lutheran Church, in Burwell, Nebraska, since 2011.  ¶ She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Albrecht; her son, James Albrecht; daughter-in-law, Gegele "Gigi" Klug; her parents, Otto, Sr. and Inga Hanson; infant-sister, Ellen; and her brothers Delmont, Ivan, and Arden "Bud" Hanson. ¶ She is survived by her sons, Steven (Lourdes) Albrecht of Benson, Arizona; Ted Albrecht of Odessa, Texas; Ronald (Shelly) Albrecht of Dunning, Nebraska; brother, Otto (Arlene) Hanson, Jr. of Dalton, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Gina Albrecht of Sparks, Nevada; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Albrecht of Fosston, Minnesota; Marilynn Albrecht of Greencastle, Missouri; Agnes Schoeler of Alexandria, Minnesota; Myrna Hanson of Weston, Missouri; co-mother-in-law, Bonnie Ferguson of Burwell, Nebraska; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and distant kinfolk.  ¶ The Reverend Jon Fransom officiated the memorial service on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at the St. John's Lutheran Chuch in Burwell, Nebraska. After the service the family held a reception for friends and loved ones; followed by a private interment at the Brewster Cemetery in Brewster, Nebraska. ¶ Online condolences may be submitted at https://www.Remembered.com/NormaAlbrecht
