Memorial Biography

Donna Ruth (Roberson) Gifford, 70, passed away unexpectedly on June 23, 2020. She was born in Stoneham, MA, the daughter of Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Robert Roberson and Evelyn (Dulong) Roberson.

She married the love of her life and husband of 49 years, former Marine James Michael Gifford, on March 6, 1971. They had two children, Allen and Danielle, and Donna treasured her time as dedicated stay at home mother until they both entered primary school.

Donna then started managing a local corner store part time, a position that made good use of her outgoing personality and strong work ethic. She excelled in the working world and even had an opportunity to take over ownership of the store, but declined because she wanted to focus her attention on her family. They were always her priority. She could often be found checking her daughter out of school early to go get their hair done.

Donna served as Cub Scout Pack Leader and the greatest Homeroom Mother of all time. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, watching Days of Our Lives, camping with her family, and frequent visits to Dunkin Donuts. Very few people have ever loved animals as much as Donna did.

Donna was extremely empathetic and thoughtful. She remembered every special occasion, brought meals to friends and relatives when they were ill or bereaved, and selflessly helped to care for her father when he was ill. She was compassionate and kind, frugal yet generous, and charmed everyone with her quick wit and gorgeous smile. When it came to family, she was fiercely loyal. There would be no saving yourself if you messed with one of "her people."

Stubborn until the end, Donna won her battle with cancer and lived for another six years, peacefully passing in her sleep. She is survived by her husband James Gifford of Durham, son Allen Gifford and his wife, Megan, of Hillsborough, daughter Danielle Gifford of Durham, three grandchildren, sister Maureen Doucette and her husband, Dave of North Reading, MA, and multiple nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and younger brother, Robbie. Due to Coronavirus limitations, a memorial will be held at a later date.
