Scott, John Richard

John Scott was born in Ruby, Arizona on March 16, 1940 and passed away on December 23, 2012 at Sahuarita, Arizona, as the result of advanced Alzheimer's disease.  He attended Bisbee, Arizona schools and graduated from Bisbee High School with the class of 1958.  John was a proud Bisbee Puma.  He was an excellent scholar and played on the Varsity football, basketball, and baseball teams.  He was a member of the marching band.  While still in high school John joined the Arizona Army National Guard.  He received Army Basic Training at Fort Ord, California and earned an honorable discharge in 1965. He had a passion for music and was the lead guitarist in the rock band The Premiers.

After attending the University of Arizona, John worked at the ASAICO and ANAMEX mines in Sahuarita.  He worked for nine years as a contractor in Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.  During this period he and his family traveled throughout the Middle East and Europe.  In 1983 he and his wife Carolyn completed an around the world trip, from Saudi Arabia and back, traveling westward.

John was selected as the assistant maintenance manager at Kitt Peak National Observatory.  He received recognition for supervising the repair of a troublesome telescope at La Serena, Chile.   After  17 years of service, John retired from Kitt Peak in 2003. He then worked briefly in construction at Henderson, Nevada  and Bisbee, Arizona.  In 2003 he took over management of LamTech Corporation in Tucson, a business he founded in 1990.

John volunteered many hours organizing Bisbee High School class reunions.  He donated many valuable items for door prizes.  He was a regular at the famous Bisbee Fourth of July celebrations.  Most of all he loved visiting old friends and being of help.  John leaves many friends throughout the world and certainly in Southern Arizona.  He was a friend to all and was loved by all.  He will be missed deeply.

John passed away on his 52nd wedding anniversary.  In addition to his wife, Carolyn , he is survived by two sons, Roy and John, and one daughter, Elizabeth Zurcher.   He also leaves a brother, Charlie, two sisters, Margaret Puster and Roberta Martinez, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
