Kush coached the Wildcats from 1958 until 1979. He is the winningest coach in the school’s history, compiling a record of 176-54-1. He won nine conference titles, including undefeated seasons in 1970 and 1975. He led the team to four Fiesta Bowl victories. Kush was fired by Arizona State during the 1979 season after punter Kevin Rutledge accused Kush of punching him in the face during a game in 1978 after a bad punt. Kush then coached for Hamilton in the Canadian Football League in 1981. In 1982, he became the head coach of the NFL’s Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts. He quit as head coach of the Colts with one game left in the 1984 season. Kush rejoined the Arizona State Wildcats as a member of the athletic department in 2000. Kush was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1995.
